SCHOOLOF ROCK; Primary pupils host mini Glastonbury festival

"A sharp shower around 11.15 in the morning caused some worries, but the sun came out and stayed out for the rest of the day," said a spokesman.It centred on the recently refurbished Birdsedge Village Hall and junior school fields off Penistone Road, and kicked off at noon on Saturday.The field events included a children''s entertainer, Music in the Marquee, a craft fair, stalls, games, a BBQ, bar, and homemade food.CAPTION(S):CAPTION(S):A spokesman for the organisers said: "Elaine's duck and dog performances were probably the highlight of the afternoon, but there was much in the way of entertainment and song and dance acts.CHILDREN at "the best school in the universe" held their own mini Glastonbury music festival. And just like the real thing, youngsters at Gateshead's Lingey House Primary had to brave the rain.Saturday evening featured the Real Ale Night with a selection of real ales from local micro breweries, bottled lager and wine and cider were also on sale Local entertainers included: Gareth Dickinson, Modern Misfits, Undiscovered and Detox.But they had 14 tents to shelter in during the showers that failed to put a dampener on the end-of-term celebration."There were plenty of games and side stalls to have a go on or buy things from. The evening concert started with Gareth singing songs from shows and finishing brilliantly with Nessun Dorma. He was followed by young rock bands.The event had free entry as a result of en EPIP grant and many people took advantage of that."The children have worked on a variety of musical items leading up to the festival."
